Aspen Steiner-Photo Safari

The Photo Safari assignment called for students to follow the light, so I thought, why not wake up at six in the morning and watch the sunrise? It turns out the morning was pretty cloudy and dawn took the sky from dark blue to light blue with no other color in between. I really wanted to photograph Saint Francis Xavier College Church, because in the past I’ve seen how stunning it is in the evening and expected the same in the morning light. I was not disappointed. I chose this picture because I think the quality of light enhances the mood that I was trying to capture. The warm light emphasizes a sense of welcomeness put off by the church, while the contrast of the natural light helps enhance the look of the doorway. I had a lot of difficulty with the camera and am still noticing what a task it is to get every setting right. I would like this picture better if it was perfectly centered. Looking at it after having taken the shot and uploading the picture I noticed it’s a tad off kilter. Besides that, a close up shot might have worked well too.

A really strong edit helped by the great quality of light. Nice hustle here.
